Codes and Conventions for Posters

From this research that has been completed it is clear to see how typically film posters are laid out using a rule of thirds and following a range of codes and conventions. This research has enabled us to see the codes and conventions that we shall follow when creating our film poster.
These conventions include:
- Ensuring the title of out film is found within the lower third of the poster making it easy for the audience to identify.
- To include a tag line. However this doesn't have to be within a certain location of the poster and its framing can be wherever. When looking at romantic comedy posters the tagline usually is within the top third of the poster. This is where we hope to put out tagline of our film. The positioning and framing depends on the genre of the film and the impact that it is needed to have on the audience.
- The production details are commonly found within the lower third of the poster using a small white or black font. This makes it stands out against the contrasting background.
- Another convention that I will be able to use within my coursework from my previous knowledge from GCSE Media Studies coursework and my AS Coursework is that the central image is of the main characters usually with star power to intrigue the audience. This is the case for films such as 'The Woman in Black' where Daniel Radcliffe stared on the poster. As he starred in the well known series of Harry Potter popular with the same target audience as The Woman in Black this means that he has already established an audience that wants to watch films staring him within the fantasy genre.

We decided to work together because of how we were previously friends before our coursework, this meant that we already had an established relationship and were able to click and share our ideas easily. We also decided to work together through our passion of Media. We have all been studying the subject since we chose our GCSE options and have been studying the subject coming up to 4 years. We all strive to do well and are keen to get the highest grade possible.
